This is an important decision as this is where you decide what type of setup you want and where you want LDMoffice to access data. Click on the option to see the steps required for installation. We recommend if you have DSL, cable, T1 or other high speed internet, select option 1 - this is the easiest to install and maintain and has all the features and latest data maintained for you.

1.      This computer will access LDMoffice data on the web (recommended). - LDMoffice software will run on your computer and will get data from Lawyers Diary Manual servers on the Internet. All you need is a broadband "always on" connection to the Internet (DSL 256 kbs or better). We recommend this method as it has a number of advantages.

a.      Latest available data on Lawyers Diary and Manual servers refreshed more often than distributed on CD

b.      Automatically have access to the latest data without having to install it on your computer or server.

c.      Quick install – just install the software and register no need for server installs

d.      All functionality of "server install" available including firm wide My Office functionality including shared calendars and more.

e.      Home and mobile workers can access data from home or on the road - yes we tested it on a laptop with a cellular broadband service and it works very well where 3G cellular service is available (though the application does not open in a browser it uses the data network and your data usage on your cellular data plan).

f.        If you get a new computer or your computer is damaged just install the application join back to your old account and all your information is there - no content to restore.

2.      This computer will access LDMoffice data on the web as a 30-day demo. This is same as 1 above and you request a 30-day demo order when you register the product.

3.      This computer will access LDMoffice data on your network server – This install can not be done from the CD and is run from the shared folder on the server where LDMoffice is installed in option 4 or 5 below

4.      This computer will access LDMoffice data as a stand-alone PC or server to others. The LDMoffice software, answer engine and the Lawyers Diary and Manual content is installed to this computer. LDMoffice will run on this computer without connectivity to the Internet or any other computer. Other computers on your network can be setup to use this computer as a server (this computer will have the answer engine and Lawyers Diary and Manual content). The hardware requirements for running this option are much higher than just running LDMoffice to access data from the web or another computer on the network. These are the minimum requirements for hardware.

a.      CPU: Pentium IV 1GHz or higher on XP (1.8 GHz on Vista and Windows Servers).

b.      RAM: 1GB minimum 2GB recommended on XP (2GB or higher on Vista and Windows Servers).

c.      Hard Drive: 1GB disk space used 2GB free required at time of install.

5.  This is a server installation of LDMoffice for computers on your network to access. This is similar to option 4 except LDMoffice cannot be used on this computer and is where the answer engine and Lawyers Diary and Manual content is installed and available for other computers on your network.

Option 4. and 5. require Microsoft SQL Server 2005 the Express edition will be installed by LDMoffice. If you have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and wish to use your own server, it must have Full Text installed and allow SQL authentication. You will also need the system admin credentials to SQL Server 2005. If you don't know what this means don't worry, the setup will figure this out for you with two easy questions.
